Our House in Germany

If you haven't heard the story by now, our family is moving to Germany for two years. Scott's company is relocating us so that he can work overseas to gain a global business perspective and get additional executive training. My initial reaction when Scott brought home the offer was to blow off the discussion and hope the idea would go away; then I had a freak-out when I realized Scott was seriously considering the offer; and somehow, within a week, I was fully on board and ready to discuss the move with the boys. Griffin (5 years old) wanted to leave the next day, and Ethan (then 8) took a couple of days to ask questions and analyze, but fully committed to the idea after that. I put my fears aside because I realized 1) it was crucially important to Scott's career, which is our sole manner of income, and 2) it was an incredible opportunity for the boys. They will get to travel Europe extensively, attend an International school with kids from all over the world, learn a new language, and be immersed in another culture. My hope is that they will gain a world perspective at a young age that many of us achieve only as adults, and that the intense shared experience will bond us even more closely as a family.

With that said, Scott visited Germany a few weeks ago to tour his new office, check out two school options, and find us a house to rent. We are waiting to hear if the boys were accepted at our first choice of schools, and Scott signed a lease on a house last week - that was a "this is really happening" moment. Here are some pictures of the house we will occupy in a town outside of Dusseldorf.
